A lot of visitors that come to Munich decide that they would actually quite fancy living here (there are over 15,000 native English speakers living and working in Munich!). There are a number of ways in which you can do this - this section explains a few of them.
Apart from marrying a wealthy local, there are two sensible ways to do this:
- Study at Munich University
- Get a job here
Munich university runs a number of exchange programs with other universities around the world - get on one of these. Munich University is a well respected institution, so you'll be doing your CV/Resume some good as well as living somewhere new.
Alternatively, if you're not interested in studying or have already studied, you could try and find yourself a job here. Obviously the ability to speak German would increase your chances and the number of opportunities available to you. But all is not lost if you don't speak German - there are many people in Munich who only have a rudimentary understanding of German, but live and work here. In the next section are some links to companies in the Munich area where it is possible to find work without being able to speak German. If you just want to stay here for a few months, then your best bet is to get some bar work. There are bars in Munich (see the drinking section) where many of the customers are English speaking and the bar staff don't need much German to be able to do their jobs. Another good option is to teach English, but you'll need the proper qualifications.
