What's on in English?

The short answer is: not a lot. The longer answer would explain how most films that are shown in Germany are dubbed into German. This means that you're going to hear Clint Eastwood speaking German - this can be quite disconcerting. Luckily, for those of us who like to see films in their original form, there are some cinemas that show films in English with German subtitles. See the cinema section for more details.

Theatre is almost exclusively in German but there are some exceptions. You'll need to keep your eyes on the local press to see when these English productions are on.

Live music is often available at different venues in Munich. When you arrive in Munich ask at your hotel for a local newspaper or events guide to see what's on during your stay.

Cinema

There are 84 cinemas in Munich. That's a lot of cinemas.

The best known and most popular cinema in Munich that shows films in their original language (that's English 99% of the time) is 'Cinema Muenchen'. Cinema Muenchen is a couple of minutes walk from Stiglmeierplatz U-Bahn station (take the U-Bahn (U1) north one stop to Stiglmeierplatz from the main station). The cinema can get quite busy, so book your tickets in advance if you can. The full address of the cinema is:
